With the pool reclamation project all but completed, The Dalles Swim Team is offering signups for its summer session for boys and girls from ages 5-18.
All skill levels are invited, and athletes from across the gorge are invited to participate.
In all, the team has tentatively scheduled three competitive meets this summer, with the first day of practice scheduled for Monday, June 15 at the pool.
After an eight-year layoff, former The Dalles head swim coach Scott McKay will be back coaching along with White Salmon, Wash. native Scott Bergstrom.
Bergstrom, who previously swam for Hood River Valley High School, was fast enough to qualify for the last Olympic Trials.
He is finishing his sophomore year at the University of Denver.
McKay is excited about the opportunity to coach up and prepare these young athletes as they strive for top times and places.
“I am looking forward to a great year,” McKay said. “My goal is to build upon the strong commitment of the parents where the swimmers can improve their strokes, compete, enjoy swimming with their friends and have fun during the summer. Summer swim team was a great experience for my family when my kids were growing up.”
Registration is taking place now and the coaches along with board member Jodi Mitchell want to register as many swimmers as we can to start the building process after a one-year layoff.
