The Dalles High School softball program is holding its inaugural softball clinic for girls between the ages of 6-18 starting this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Wahtonka Gym in The Dalles.
The clinic this Saturday is open to girls 12 and younger.
At the same times on Saturday, March 12, athletes who are 13 and older hit the gym for seven hours of fundamental work in a fun and easy atmosphere.
Costs are $50 at the door, and there is also a special $450 team fee for all players, and those costs include lunch and a free clinic shirt for each player.
Steve Garrett will employ some of the varsity players and graduated athletes as guides and instructors, but he and assistant coach Duane Witter are to serve as the primary teachers.
The daily routine will begin at 9 a.m. with skill drills, hitting and bunting, basic infield and outfield sessions, and also will include pitching and catching workouts, tailored to the skill level of each participant.
At noon, the kids break for an hour lunch of subway sandwiches, along with fruit and beverages, which are provided in the camp fee.
Beginning at 1 p.m., Garrett plans to hold individualized work sessions, and Witter will hold pitching workouts and coordinate defensive drills.
