The second annual Riverhawk 3k and 5k run and walk attracted more than 100 harriers last Saturday at Sorosis Park in The Dalles.
Nearly 40 participants signed on for the 3k race, as Zack Ziegenhagen secured first place on the men’s side with a time of 12 minutes and 41 seconds.
Just behind Ziegenhagen was Evan Despain, who placed second after a 12:55. And Gavin Cates finished in third place at 13:07.
Diego Minguela (13:59), Aaron Pyles (14:15), Shane Floyd (14:24), Vincent Ziegenhagen (14:25), Sant Strassheim (14:41), Egan Ziegenhagen (14:51) and Adam Whitesell (15:19) rounded out the top-14.
Hanna Ziegenhagen soared past the field for top honors in the women’s 3k run in 12:48, topping Emily Johnson (14:05) and Bellah Sandvold (15:10).
Caitie Wring (16:05), Mary Snodgrass (16:10), Zora Richardson (16:28), Maia Montecalvo (16:29), Darlene House (18:26), Megan Lenardson (18:53) were in the top-10.
“We had over 100 participants. A lot of middle school and high school runners but also, a lot of people from the Columbia Gorge area ran and walked,” event coordinator Bob Thouvenel said. “(It was) a successful event.”
Jony Nelson got his fall season off on the right track with first place in the men’s 5k race in a stout 18:38, just 12 seconds ahead of Aaron Camp, who churned out an 18:50 for second place.
Chris Chaparro (19:04), John Miller (19:25), Luke McLean (20:00), Zerin Croover (20:18), Tyrell Evans (20:29), Chase Snodgrass (20:33), Paul Clark (21:00) and Michael Lantz (21:02) capped the best 10 male finishers.
The Dalles High School standout Emily Morin came out strong on her home course for top billing in the women’s 5k race with a mark of 22:45, besting fellow TD athlete Caela Dunagan (23:18) by more than 30 seconds.
Amanda Hoey (24:53), Molly Nelson (25:05), Kellina Coy (25:10), Paige McLeod (25:10), Rebekah Carson (26:34), Marissa Heemsah (26:54), Katie Burns (29:11), Cindy Berkshire (31:05) and Katie Nelson (31:10) completed the top-16 participants.
