Jada Myers scored 11 points, and the duo of Abby Birman and Allie Noland had eight points each, as the South Wasco county Redsides broke open a 26-16 halftime lead with an 18-12 second-half run in a 43-28 win over Sherman Friday in Moro.
“We stayed focused all night,” said SWC head coach Bill Mead. “We had scoring from everyone. It was a great team effort.”
Out in front by 10 points to start the third quarter, SWC’s defense held Sherman off the scoreboard and used two field goals by Myers and Kiana Moody, Noland and Tatum Hahn added two points apiece for a 10-0 run to make it a 36-16 lead entering the fourth period.
Sherman outscored SWC 12-8 in the fourth quarter, but could not inch any closer.
Emily Poirier had a team-high eight points, Emily Hill scored five and Brianna McKinney tacked on three points, as Sherman hit on nine field goals and went 7 of 18 from the line.
SWC loses at home to CW
On Saturday in Maupin, the Redsides ran into a tough challenge in No. 5-ranked Condon-Wheeler and suffered a 53-36 loss.
Condon got a hot shooting start from Emma Logan, who had nine points to lead 23-7 through the opening quarter.
“Our first quarter was the difference in the game,” SWC head coach Bill Mead. “We had a good scoring from everyone. We need to do the things we do best and play better defense. Something we will be working on.”
Out in front by double digits to start the second half, the Lady Knights scored seven points in the third quarter and then capped the game on a 10-6 run.
Logan had a game-high 24 points, Annika Reitmann notched nine and both Lacy Aamodt and Brooke Dyer added six points each for the Knights, who had 21 field goals.
All told, SWC tallied 13 field goals and went 8 for 25 from the line, as Kiana Moody had 14 points, Allie Noland had eight and Chloe Huot ended up with four points.
SWC (10-10 overall, 5-6 in league) remains in fourth place in the tough Big Sky Conference with three games left.
The Redsides host Horizon Christian at 6 p.m. tonight, and heads to Ione for a league matchup at 6 p.m. Friday.
