The Dufur Rangers won their fourth game in five tries this past weekend by a 60-33 score over Klickitat High School Saturday in a re-scheduled non-league boy’s basketball game against Klickitat, Wash.
Once again, a quick start with defense setting the tone helped the Rangers gain an upper hand in this matchup, as they used the first eight minutes to stake themselves to a 20-3 lead.
In the second quarter, the Rangers added a 10-8 output to lead 30-11 at the intermission.
“We came out strong this afternoon,” said Dufur coach Tony White said. “Our pressure hurt Klickitat early.”
Up by 19 points, Dufur maintained its edge on the hardwood with an 18-13 rally padding the lead up to 24 points, before a 12-9 surge in the final frame proved to put the final touches on this blowout win.
“In the second half, our younger guys got some quality minutes and stepped up nicely,” White said.
Leading on the scoring sheet was Jake Kortge, who reeled off another double-digit effort of 18 points.
Bryson Caldwell added 10 points, and the freshman duo of Bailey Keever and Connor Uhalde kicked in eight points each.
White added that defense was one key area that excelled and so was glasswork and execution.
“We did a nice job on the boards tonight. (It was) probably the best we have looked in that area this season,” White said. “Now we will get back to work and ready ourselves for the Portland Lutheran Tournament on Jan. 2-4 in Portland.”
