HENRY LEE, who played third base and pitched for The Dalles, flicks his bat after hitting an RBI double in the first inning. Lee’s extra base hit drove in The Dalles first two runs of Saturday’s series against Pendleton.
The Dalles center fielder Tabor McLaughlin, beats the throw home by sliding head first Saturday at Kramer Field. McLaughlin was one of 12 TD hitters to get on base and score in the bottom of the second inning of Game 1, which The Dalles easily won 25-1.

Mitchell Bane threw the first four innings of Game 1 for The Dalles and allowed just one unearned run in the top of the first.
After splitting with Pendleton last summer, The Dalles 14-year-old Babe Ruth All-Stars made it clear Saturday at Kramer Field who the better team was this time around.
Playing a best-of-three series for the District 5 championship, TD coasted to a 25-1 victory in Game 1 and backed it up with a 14-3 win to advance to the state tournament in West Linn.
“They really want it this year and when the kids want it, it’s easy,” TD manager David Hough said. “We split with them last year so we wanted to make a statement and I believe we did that.”
Pendleton scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning on two The Dalles errors. But TD answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning to begin building its lead.
Henry Lee got The Dalles on the board with a double that drove in Trenton Hough and Mitchell Bane.
After Jordan Wetmore walked and took off for second in an attempt to steal, Pendleton got Lee in a rundown trying to come home but threw the ball away allowing Lee to score.
TD went on to score two more runs on similar botched rundowns in the second inning.
“We’re really aggressive and fast,” coach Hough said. “A lot of teams don’t know how to deal with that.”
Wetmore scored the final run of the first inning on an RBI bunt by Jeremiah Brittle. TD came within one hitter of batting around but Pendleton got a fly ball to first base to get out of the inning.
Pendleton wouldn’t be as lucky in the next two innings as 15 The Dalles hitters came to the plate in the second and 11 in the third as TD tacked on 18 runs to take a commanding 22-1 lead.
Pendleton didn’t get its first out of the second until Baily Hajicek, who tripled to lead off the inning, grounded out to third base in his second at bat. But TD scored another run on the play and by then The Dalles led 14-1.
Bane drove in two more runs with a double but was called out trying to stretch it into a triple. Lee then walked and was caught stealing second to end the inning.
The Dalles loaded the bases to begin the third and Manuel Trejo tripled to clear them.
With one out in the third, Riley Mills doubled to drive in two more runs.
The Dalles had seven extra base hits in the first three innings.
TD scored six runs in the third and another three in the fourth to complete the scoring.
On the mound, Mitchell got the start for The Dalles and shut Pendleton down over four innings.
Wetmore then got the final three outs to secure the blowout victory.
“We couldn’t ask for anything more from Mitchell,” coach Hough said. “He’s a Goldendale kid who surprised us in practice.”
TD got off to a slow start in the second game, at least compared to the first.
The Dalles led 3-1 in the third inning before its offense woke back up.
“We didn’t have the drive to put up another 25 [runs],” Hough said. “They didn’t play at that level. It’s kind of hard to get up for a game after that.”
Trenton Hough pitched the first four innings of the second game and Lee got the final three outs to close the series and send TD to the four-team state tournament, which will begin Friday with pool play.
The championship game will take place Saturday evening.
The winner of the state tournament will advance to the Pacific Northwest Regional Tournament, which begins Saturday, July 25 in Lewiston, Idaho.
