Blake Evans, Maverick Winslow, Brittney Orendorff and the boys 4x100-meter relay all secured wins and the Sherman boys and girls each picked up second-place honors Saturday at the 13-team 1A Track Classic at Portland Christian High School.
Evans had a time of 12.26 seconds for his title, Winslow had a height of 10-feet in the pole vault, Orendorff soared to an 8-0 in the pole vault and the relay team of Winslow, Kevin Hart, Luke Lawrence and Evans set a season-best time of 46.91.
Blake Evans placed second in the javelin with a toss of 149-11, ended up third in the 200-meters in a time of 24.74 and Winslow finished second in the 100 with a mark of 12.32.
Winslow added a triple jump distance of 37-4.50 to secure third place, Hunter Grenvik was third-best in the 3,000-meters with a time of 11:24.65 and Reese Blake grabbed fifth place in the 400-meters (1:01.10) and 800-meters (2:22.79).
Those scores gave Sherman 92 points for second place behind Hosanna Christian (108).
The Sherman girls’ team ended up with 72 points and Damascus Christian had 81 points for a team title.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Emily Hill, Orendorff, Kiersten Casper and Brianna McKinney nearly set a season best with a time of 56.56, and the 4x400-meter quartet of Hill, Orendorff, Casper and Sabrina Green-Hite had a second-place mark of 4:46.99.
Casper had a time of 1:09.52 for fifth place in the 400-meters, Lexi Grenvik had a time of 13:54.73 to grab third place in the 3,000-meters, Jasmine Wilson had a toss of 24-3 in the shotput and Janet Guzman tallied seventh place in the discus with her 79-9.
Dufur gets four wins
Taylor Darden notched wins in the shotput and discus, Kirsten Sorensen tied a personal record in her high jump event and Jake Little had a top throw of 150-feet-6 inches for top honors in the javelin to lead the Dufur Rangers Saturday in the 1A Track Classic at Portland Christian.
Darden set a personal record in her discus event with a toss of 125-0, and in the shotput, the senior state champion added a 38-5 for first place in the standings.
Sorensen continued her consistent high jump with a height of 4-10 and she placed third in the triple jump with a 27-6.5.
Makenzie Dunn had a time of 14.23 for sixth place in the 100-meters, and she added a 29.37 for fifth place in the 200 to help the Lady Rangers to 42 points and a tie for seventh place.
On the boys’ side, Keith Blake secured second place in the shotput (37-9) and discus (117-10), Kurt Nuevo had sixth place in the 100-meters with a 13.19 and he set a personal record in the long jump with a 16-6 and fifth place.
In his first event of the year, Jon Buntin ended up ninth in the 1,500-meter race with a time of 6:50.08 to give Dufur 38 points for sixth place in the team rankings.
Sherman next heads to the Arlington Invitational at 10 a.m. Saturday.
“They are setting their goals for districts (May 16 in Moro) and this meet prepares us for that,” said Dufur head coach Connie Harvey. “We want to put the kids in the best position possible to hopefully get back to state.”
