Huskies establish trends in Irrigon

Up 7-1 in the top of the sixth inning, Sherman put the game out of reach with four runs on two hits and two walks.

With one out and Max Martin, Wyatt Stutzman and Austin Kaseberg on base, Ben Holliday rifled a 1-2 pitch down the right field line for a base-clearing triple to make the score 10-1. Holliday then raced home on an RBI groundout by Maverick Winslow.

In all, the Huskies slammed out nine hits, as Kaseberg tallied a 2 for 4 effort with a double, two walks and three RBIs.

Martin added two hits, two runs and an RBI, and Holliday had the triple and three RBIs.

Holliday (2-0) got the starting nod and tossed 5 1/3 innings of three-hit ball with 11 strikeouts and three walks to earn the win.

With a huge chance to pick up the series sweep, the Huskies rapped out six hits, received four walks and scored the game-tying run in the fifth frame, but stranded eight runners on base in a 2-2 seven-inning tie.

Sherman had its best opportunity to grab a win in the sixth frame with two runners on base, but the next batter struck out to end the threat.

The pitching duo of Nick Coleman and Kaseberg combined for seven frames of two-hit ball with four strikeouts and four walks.

Kaseberg finished the game and did not allow a hit.

Winslow, Kaseberg, Coleman and Kyle Fields had a hit apiece to pace the Husky offense. Winslow and Coleman scored runs, and both Kaseberg and Fields notched an RBI each.

Sherman (4-0-1 overall, 1-0-1 league) played Saturday in Umatilla.

At 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Huskies travel to No. 14 Heppner (4-1) for another league tilt.
