The Dalles volleyball team did its best to try and spoil senior night in Hood River, but the Lady Eagles managed to score a four-set win Tuesday at Vannet Court in Hood River.
“It was Hood River’s senior night and they came out hard,” said TD head coach Neticia Fanene. “We did a great job of staying emotionally calm and managed our play very smoothly. When we were serving tough, we had lots of success tonight. We did a fantastic job defensively at the net. We blocked a lot of balls and made their offense work to get the ball around our blockers.”
Hood River won the first set by a 25-20 tally, but then The Dalles showed some resolve in taking a 25-19 second-set score to even the match at 1-apiece.
In a back-and-forth third set, HRV was able to fend off a late TD rally with a 25-22 win to jump ahead 2-1 in the match.
The No. 11-ranked Eagles (23-3 overall, 8-1 league) had their largest margin of victory in the fourth to dispatch of the Hawks, 25-14.
Kathryn Bradford had eight kills, six digs and two aces, Jodi Thomasian added five kills, 15 digs and a block, and Bailey LeBreton checked in with seven kills, two blocks and an assist.
Sierra Watson dropped four aces, three kills and eight digs, Kayla Seibel added two kills, two blocks and two digs, and Lindi Logue went for an ace, eight digs and 22 assists.
“We had a game plan and we executed it very well. Unfortunately, Hood River’s tough serving made it hard for us to keep our momentum,” Fanene said. “Looking to the first time we played them, we have come so far in our aggressiveness and our overall play.”
TD (4-12, 3-6) hosts 4A Scappoose (13-8) at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in a non-league regular season finale at Kurtz Gym.
