The Dalles manager David Hough doesn’t know much about the Pendleton squad his Babe Ruth 14-year-olds will face beginning Saturday in the best-of-three District 5 tournament.
But he loves his team, especially the pitching.
According to Hough, TD has three players—Henry Lee, Jordan Wetmore and Trenton Hough—throwing in the 80s.
“We’ve got three pitchers that are just dominant,” David Hough said. “It’s phenomenal to have something like that.”
The All-Star team is made up of players from The Dalles, Hood River, Parkdale, Goldendale, Dufur and Dallesport.
“It’s a really fast group and strong,” Hough said. “It’s really hard to make a lineup this year. Some of the kids have played freshmen ball and Babe Ruth so they played against each other.”
The 14-year-olds scrimmaged the TD 15-year-old team Wednesday to get ready for the district tournament.
The Dalles will play Pendleton Saturday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. at Kramer Field. An if necessary game is scheduled for Sunday at 3 p.m.
The District 5 champions will advance to the state tournament in West Linn July 16-18. The state champ will then play in the Pacific Northwest Regional July 25 in Lewiston, Idaho.
