ARLINGTON — The Arlington Jackpot Rodeo kicks off its 68th year May 2 and 3 in Arlington, east of The Dalles.
Events will begin Saturday, May 2 with a parade through downtown Arlington at 10 a.m. and the Queen’s luncheon immediately following at the United Methodist Church Hall, 150 Hemlock St. in Arlington.
Rodeo action begins at 12:30 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday, and a cowboy breakfast will be served on Sunday at the Masonic Hall, 50 Shane Drive, from 7-10 a.m.
Arena action features traditional rodeo events, including bull riding and ranch bronc riding. There will be added money each day, except for specialty events. The specialty events will be mutton bustin’, junior and pee wee barrel racing, steer riding and a calf scramble. The 13th annual Kevin Johnson Memorial buckle will be awarded to the all-around cowboy or cowgirl. The cook shack will be serving food both days.
Ticket prices are $6 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under. A two-day pass is available for $9 adults and $6 children 12 and under.
Reigning as the Arlington Saddle Club queen is Callista Howell, 18, of Mosier. The daughter of Gaylene Howell, she is home-schooled and plans to attend Columbia Gorge Community College to pursue a career as a veterinary technician. She has been involved in the equestrian team, 4-H and a camp counselor for Rodeo Bible Camp. Howell previously served as queen of the Fort Dalles Riders
Association and Wasco County.
