Phil Lewis, executive director of Northern Wasco County Parks & Recreation District, has resigned, effective Sept. 23, to accept a new role as community services director for Oregon City.
“I am proud of everything the staff, volunteers and parks board have been able to accomplish during my tenure with the parks district,” said Lewis. “We increased services provided to the community and opened a beautiful new aquatic center.”
Lewis took over leadership of the district in December 2014, replacing former director Scott Green.
During his time with the district, Lewis oversaw construction of the Northern Wasco County Aquatic Center and splash park, organizational realignments, modernization of marketing efforts including a new website and unveiling of an online program registration system.
“The Board of Directors thanks Phil for his service to the district and our community,” said Board Chair Catherine Whalen. “During his time as executive director, Phil worked tirelessly to develop strong relationships with
stakeholders within The Dalles community and outreach to local organizations and individuals.
“These relationships resulted in personal donations and the support of many local organizations and the city council, which resulted in additional resources for our parks community, such as the bike station along the Riverfront Trail, purchase of equipment to continue our movies in the park, shade structures for the pool soon to be purchased and replacement roses at Sorosis Park,” Whalen said. “Phil’s leadership and ability to work collaboratively with partner organizations will be missed,” she added.
The parks board of directors will immediately begin searching for a replacement.
“We are working with Special Districts Association of Oregon to begin the recruitment process for a new executive director,” said Whalen, and the district hopes to have a new director in place by the end of October.
