The annual Community Clean Up will take place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Dalles residents can dispose of yard debris and other unwanted items by taking them to the collection site at the county yard located on the corner of West 10th and Walnut streets.
Usable items will also be collected at the Reuse Fair, where residents can take what they need.
To help traffic flow smoothly, participants are asked to approach the site from the south on 10th Street and exit toward 6th Street.
Two standard sized pickup trucks are allowed per household and residents are expected to help unload their vehicles.
Leaves, grass and clippings should be bagged, and branches bundled with string or twine, not wire. Material should not be over 5 feet in length and 4 inches in diameter. Yard debris which is not bagged or bundled will not be accepted. Dirt, rock or animal waste will also not be accepted, neither will tires or used appliances containing freon like refrigerators, freezers or air conditioners.
Hazardous waste materials such as oil-based paint and pesticides will not be accepted. A Tri-County Household Hazardous Waste Collection event will be taking place on May 21st, at The Dalles Disposal at 1317 West 1st Street.
Bins and assistance will be available for recyclables such as glass and plastic.
No debris from commercial businesses will be accepted. Contractors will be routed to the Transfer Station for disposal for a fee.
Residents are asked to make a donation of canned goods to benefit The Dalles Area Food Share. This year’s goal is to collect 500 pounds of food.
The Dalles Community Clean Up is connected with the non-profit organization, SOLV (Stop Oregon Litter and Vandalism), whose goal is to bring together government, business and individual volunteers for projects that enhance the livability of Oregon. Volunteers and donations are welcome to make the event a success.
