Columbia Basin Care, a nursing home at 1015 Webber Street in The Dalles, has been named among the ‘Best Nursing Homes’ in an annual ranking from U.S. News & World Report. The ranking examined 15,000 facilities nationwide and focused on selecting skilled nursing facilities with a strong track record of good care.
Columbia Basin Care is the region’s only community-owned, not-for-profit facility for long-term care and short-stay rehabilitation, according to a press release. The company offers an in-house geriatric nurse practitioner, along with a team of physical, occupational and speech therapists who provide comprehensive rehabilitation and restorative services.
Columbia Basin Care earned a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the federal agency that sets and enforces standards for nursing homes, earlier in 2018. The agency assigns a rating of one to five stars in the areas of health inspections, nurse staffing levels, and quality of care.
The U.S. News & World Report rating draws partly on CMS data.
In addition, Columbia Basin Care earned a “customer experience award” from Pinnacle Quality Insight, a national firm focused on helping its clients become better health care providers, in 2017 and 2018.
“This recognition is a wonderful affirmation of our dedication to improving the lives of those we serve,” said Aubree Olmstead, Columbia Basin Care’s executive director, in a press release. “We’ve been in the community for over 50 years and we work hard to consistently meet the needs of every resident.”
More than half the population that is older than 65 years will require long-term care services during their lives, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
