Boulders used in clean-up

KATU-TV reports the department moved out the campers and has moved in giant boulders at Foster Road.

An area neighborhood association had asked for help with the homeless camping problem.

At the moment the boulders spread from the freeway supports outward, leaving a middle area open. ODOT’s Kimberly Dinwiddie says the plan is to replant grass in the middle since people have not been trespassing there. However, she says that area could be covered in boulders too if necessary. Trees and bushes will be added.

If the rocks keep campers away, transportation officials say they’ll try the approach at other problem areas around Portland.
