Art center offers winter art camp

Early registration is encouraged, as there is limited space available. Registration forms available at the center, 220 E. 4th St., The Dalles.

Classes include:

• Holiday Reindeer with Jenny Loughmiller, Dec. 19. Get set to decorate for the holidays.

Children will use acrylics to paint a brightly colored reindeer on canvas.

Each young artist will explore how simple lines and shapes can arrange to make a complex painting more manageable, and come home with a completed 11x14 canvas. Ages 6 - 14.

• Fused Glass Ornaments with Terri Johanson and Charlene Fort, Dec. 20. The glass in this class is an excellent medium for ornaments that will become fast family favorites on your holiday tree.

In this class, children will learn some basic kiln-formed glass skills including how to prepare molds with tools using safe techniques.

Young artists will use sheet glass and frit to make elegant, hanging ornaments. All projects will be fired overnight and will be ready to pick up on the following day. Ages 6 - 14.

• Block Printed Greeting Cards with Jenny Loughmiller, Dec. 21. Class participants will be exploring winter-themed patterns and creating their own printed cards.

Children will use carving tools with foam and linoleum to create their own unique block prints, then apply them to cards.

Each child will take home 4-6 completed greeting cards. Ages 6 - 14.

• Pottery Painting with Toms Royal, Dec. 22. This class introduces young artists to the use of color and design interpreted on functional ceramic pottery.

Children will have a wide variety of glazes to choose from that are dishwasher and food safe. All projects will be fired in our kiln overnight and ready to pick up on the following day at The Dalles Art Center. Ages 6 - 14.

• Frosty Ceramic Mosaics with Lettie Young, Dec. 23.

Children will explore the use of symbol, color, and repetitious design through the assemblage and application of pre-cut ceramic tile mounted on particle board.

After arranging their tile into an original layout, they will grout their artwork into place and come home with a ceramic mosaic ready for hanging or a holiday table center piece. Ages 6 - 14.
