THE DALLES — Tri-Valley Conference champion The Dalles High volleyball team capped a perfect in-league regular season by winning two road games last week, capturing the league title for the first time since 2022.
The No. 7-ranked Riverhawks (8-0 TVC, 15-5 overall), guided by third-year Coach Teresa Morris, won 3-0 over the Estacada High Rangers (4-4 TVC, 14-7 overall) Oct. 21, followed by a 3-0 win over Molalla High Indians (2-6 TVC, 5-11 overall) Oct. 23.
“We didn’t really play our best versus Molalla,” said Morris. “I’m just glad to see that every team in our league improved this year, which is a good thing. I’m very proud of our team for winning the TVC title. At the beginning of the season, for the most part, I felt like we would definitely have a good chance to win the league title.”
The Riverhawks qualified for the 16-team state playoffs beginning Nov. 1; they’ll host a first-round home game at The Dalles High School’s Kurtz Gym. The winners on Nov. 1 advance to the Class 4A state tourney quarterfinals, Nov. 7-8, at Marshfield High School. The Riverhawks earned a fourth place trophy last year at state.
“One of our goals was to reach the state playoffs and we did that, so now we’ll move on to the next step,” Morris said. “Our hope right now is to get a win Saturday and then go to the tournament, and then hopefully place higher than fourth place and bring home another trophy.
“You never know what can happen at the state tournament. I think anybody at the tournament has a chance to win the state championship, including our team. Nobody is undefeated, so it’s going to depend on which team shows up and plays their best there. We honestly haven’t played up to our full potential yet.”
