The Dalles swims at meet in Bend

THE DALLES — The Dalles High Riverhawks boys and girls swim teams competed in their fourth OSAA Class 4A/3A/2A/1A Special District 1 meet Dec. 20 in Bend. The Riverhawk swimmers recorded five top-five finishes in the pool at the 11-team event.

The junior trio of Sawyer Dray, Rhett Loughmiller and Maverick Varland highlighted the meet for The Dalles boys squad as they each recorded three top-five finishes. The Dalles senior Everest Lenardson also contributed with a solid swimming effort with two top-five finishes.

The quartet of Dray, Varland, Lenardson and Loughmiller swam to fourth place in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3 minutes, 49.07 seconds) and they also took fourth in the 200-yard medley relay (1:59.89).

Dray, Loughmiller and Varland each swam to top five individual event finishes. Varland was second in the 500 free (6:15.83). Loughmiller was second in the 200-yard IM (2:30.22). The boys squad took sixth place in team scoring with 154 points.

The Riverhawk quartet of sophomore Adele Black, senior Laura Black, junior Riley Elliot and freshman Katelynn Benjamin highlighted the meet for the girls squad as they notched a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard free relay (2:03.58). Laura Black was sixth in the 500 freestyle (8:04.47). The Riverhawk girls took seventh place in team scoring with 73 points.

The Riverhawk swim teams will compete in their fifth meet of the season in their next event Jan. 9, 2026, at the Hood River Aquatic Center.
