The Dalles, Hood River summer swim teams compete at 12U state

THE GORGE — The Dalles and Hood River summer swim teams competed in the 12U state championship meet July 10-12 at the Tualatin Hills Aquatic Center in Beaverton.

The Dalles, led by Coach Ann Goodman, had five qualifiers for that meet: Holten Lawrence, 10, Harlan Lawrence, 8, Elijah Bachman, 12, Silas Vaught, 12, and Sebastian Powell, 12. Coach Goodman said there were 671 swimmers at this state championship event.

Powell competed in the boys 50-meter fly with a time of 36.77 seconds, good for 22nd.

Holten Lawrence took tenth in the 200-meter freestyle, eighth in the 50-meter fly, fourth in the 50-meter freestyle, fourth in the 100-meter back, seventh in the 100-meter freestyle and second in the 50-meter back. Holten’s second-place time was 38.72 seconds.

Harlan Lawrence took 22nd in the 8U boys 100-meter freestyle, the 8U boys 50-meter fly and the 8U boys 50-meter breast. Harlan also took 27th place in the 8U boys 50-meter freestyle. Harlan completed the 50-meter breast in 1 minute and 6.09 seconds.

The Hood River summer swim squad, led by coach Shelly Rawding, had eight athletes who qualified for 12U state. Those include Gracie Adams, Finn Blakeslee, Ryl Blakeslee, Otis Caldwell, Alice Clark, Loula Clark, Rowan Hogue and Izzie Mack.

The Dalles now has Solana, 13, Maili, 13, and Kaiya Doty, 17, and Carolyn Clausen, 14, who will participate in the 13-and-over state championship meet July 23-26 in Beaverton.
