Fall sports registration is underway
Fall sports registration for Hood River Valley High School is going on now and the start of the fall sports season is right around the corner, with the first games starting Aug. 25 (soccer and volleyball). Freshman and juniors will need updated physicals. To register, go to hrvathletics.com, and clock on “Register here” under the “Registration” tab.
Mind over Mountain adventure race Aug. 6 at Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Resort
The inaugural Mind Over Mountain adventure race will take place Saturday, Aug. 6 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Resort. Register a team of three or take on the challenge solo with individual registration. Competitors will be challenged with physical and mental obstacles along a mountain course that will take creativity and grit to overcome. The course is designed to be strenuous for experienced competitors, while still offering fun for teams looking for a great team building outing. There will also be live music along with Meadows staff firing up the BBQ and offering cold drinks from the sun deck. Registration ends Aug. 3 and can be done at skihood.com/the-mountain/summer/events/mind-over-mountain. All participants will receive one free year of GaiaPro — a standalone service on gaiagps.com, or enhancement to the Gaia GPS mobile app (purchased separately for iOS or Android). Plus, category winners will each receive a free Gaia GPS App.
Post Canyon 50K and Half Marathon
The annual Post Canyon 50K and Half Marathon will return Saturday, Aug. 13. Runners compete on forest trails and roads on the Hood River County Forestry Department tree farm, with the course starting and ending at Kingsley Reservoir. The half-marathon is $49 to register; the 50K is $79 (sign up soon, as spots are limited). The half-marathon features two aid stations, while the 50K has five. In addition to having proper footwear and attire for trail running, competitors are also required to carry at least 24 ounces of water on them.
