THE DALLES — The Dalles High Riverhawks snapped a three-game losing streak, winning two straight nonleague games last week in OSAA Class 4A girls basketball.
The Riverhawks (2-3) scored a season-high point total in a 90-6 win over the Class 3A Corbett High Cardinals (0-4) Dec. 9 at Corbett High School. The Cardinals’ inexperienced squad has eight freshmen, four sophomores and two juniors. Corbett has been outscored by a margin of 275-33 in four games.
The Dalles sophomore Bryce Newby led the Riverhawks in scoring with 19 points. Junior Evelyn Rogers (18 points, 11 rebounds) and sophomore Willow Ziegenhagen (16 points) also scored in double figures for the Riverhawks.
The Riverhawks then notched a second consecutive nonleague victory, 57-30, over the Astoria High Fishermen (1-3) on Dec. 13 at Astoria High School. Senior Jackie Begay led the Riverhawks in scoring with 14 points, and she also had a team-high six steals. Freshman Anuhea Peters scored 12 points as did Rogers.
The Riverhawks were seeking to get a third straight nonleague win in their 2025-26 season opening home game Dec. 16 versus the No. 5-ranked St. Helens High Lions (4-0). The Dalles then plays in the South Coast Les Schwab Tournament from Dec. 18-20 at Marshfield High School in Coos Bay.
