BELLINGHAM — Sisters Hannah and Jessica Polkinghorn are track and field teammates again, this season at Western Washington University in Bellingham.
They competed two years together at Columbia High in White Salmon. Hannah, a junior, is a sprinter/jumper for the Vikings; freshman Jessica is throwing the shot put and discus.
They recently competed in the March 21-22 Oregon Preview meet at Hayward Field in Eugene along with athletes from 30 other colleges of various sizes.
Hannah finished eighth in the 200 meters and long jump, and 10th in the 100. Her time in the 200 of 25.25 seconds is her personal best (outdoors). She ran 25.15 during the collegiate indoor season. She also ran a leg on Western’s first-place 4x100 relay at the Preview.
Jessica was fourth in the shot put and 10th in the javelin at the Preview. Her bests this season in those events are 14.59 meters (47-10.25) and 39.98 (131-2). She won the shot put at the Feb. 18 Greater Northwest Athletic Conference indoor championships, where Western won the team title. Hannah placed fifth in the long jump at the GNAC meet.
