HRVHS announces December athletes of the month

Freshman Noah Wachsmuth wrestled phenomenally in the month of December. He began the month unranked and by the end of the month he was ranked No. 1 in the state by oregonwrestler.com. Wachsmuth earned a 16-2 record with wins over highly-ranked wrestlers, including the returning top-ranked wrestler in 6A, Anthony Cha, whom Wachsmuth beat twice. Wachsmuth also beat the No. 3, No. 5, No. 6, and No. 9 wrestlers. Wachsmuth’s two losses were at the Reno Nevada Tournament of Champions to wrestlers from Ironwood Ridge, Ariz., and Clovis North, Calif,. Wachsmuth was the tournament champion at the North Bend Coast Classic and went 9-0 at the Northwest Team Dual Meet Championships in Albany. Wachsmuth is also on the honor roll in his classes.

Payton Rigert:

Two-time returning state champion Payton Rigert is a senior and team captain for the HRV girls wrestling team. In the month of December, she was 12 – 0 with tournament championships at the HRV Girls Tournament, the North Bend Coast Classic Girls Tournament, and the Hanford Winter Cup Tournament. She was invited to and attended the USA Wrestling Girls Training Camp at the end of December in Tempe, Ariz., at Arizona State University and encouraged two of her teammates to attend with her. Rigert is a 4.0 student.

Marlie Bloomster:

Marlie Bloomster has been a senior leader for the HRV girls varsity basketball team all year. In December, she was HRV’s leading scorer for every game but one and leading rebounder for almost every game as well. Bloomster leads the team right now with 119 points on the year (second is 49 points) and 79 rebounds on the year (second is 56) and seven blocks (stats do not include Wednesday’s game against Heritage High). Bloomster also has 19 steals on the year (first is 21). Bloomster is also a great student with a 3.5 grade-point average.
