Eagle netters win four of five matches in three days

HOOD RIVER - Hood River Valley sophomore Kane Wagner and freshman Kash Wagner won their fifth straight boys doubles tennis match April 18, but the Eagles lost 6-2 to Caldera High of Bend.

The Wagners beat Caldera’s Levi Waters and Josyah Mertins 6-3, 6-1 in No. 1 doubles for Coach Jon Hiatt’s HRV squad. The Eagles culminated a five-match-in-three-days stretch of tennis with the loss – but otherwise the stretch was a success with wins over Sisters (7-1), Mountain View (7-1), West Salem (5-3), and Parkrose (5-3).

Since losing in straight sets in HRV’s 6-2 loss March 19 to Ridgeview of Redmond, the Wagners have posted doubles win over teams from The Dalles, La Salle, Parkrose, and Mountain View - before the win against Caldera. Kane Wagner is also 2-1 in singles matches this season for Hood River (7-3 overall, 1-1 Northwest Oregon Conference).

HRV’s doubles team of Emmi Galindo and Asher Weld lost its doubles match against Caldera, but the pair has a 5-2 record since teaming up April 3 against The Dalles. They won fourth straight since their loss April 9 against NWOC foe La Salle Prep. The Falcons beat HRV, 7-1.

Hood River senior Rune Baumhackl, at No. 2 singles, leads the team in singles wins, and he also has a couple of doubles victories with No. 1 singles player Carson Abel. They won at No. 1 singles to help HRV to the 5-3 win April 17 over West Salem.
