The defending OSAA Class 4A/3A/2A/1A Special District 4 champion Dufur High Rangers girls golf team had one of their best performances of the season May 3, taking third place in the seven-team Union High Invitational Tournament at Buffalo Peak Golf Course in Union.
The Rangers shot a 418 to finish behind La Grande (408) and Pendleton (408), who tied for first place.
Dufur sophomore Tygh Timinsky earned medalist honors, shooting a 78 amongst a field of 38 golfers. It marked the seventh individual tourney win this year for Timinsky, who took sixth in the 2023 state tournament.
Senior Molly Cochenour shot a 94, freshman Cadence Young shot 112, and sophomore Cynthia Medina shot 122.
The Dufur boys also played at Union; junior Klayton Schanno shot a 94, senior Jared Infante shot a personal best 99, and junior Sonny Wilson shot 107, also a personal best.
The Rangers boys and girls squads competed in the SD4 championship tourney May 6-7 at Quail Ridge Golf Course in Baker. The top-two girls teams will advance to the state tournament May 13-14 at Tokatee Golf Club in McKenzie and the top-five individual players also qualify for state.
The boys state tournament is May 13-14 at Emerald Valley Golf Course in Creswell. The top-three boys 3A/2A/1A teams at district also qualify for state as do the top-five individual players.
