Bruins host four-way track and field meet

WHITE SALMON — The Columbia High School track and field team competed in a four-team Trico League meet April 22 in White Salmon, where the Bruins posted 15 personal bests.

They included the winning 19-foot, 2.75-inch long jump mark by Simon Caldwell, who also cleared 5-10 in the high jump. Teammate Ezekiel Wilson Ramirez posted two season bests - in the shot put at 35-0.5 and discus at 117-3.

The Bruin boys had two other winners: senior Hunter Wang won the 300-meter hurdles in 42.52, and junior Luther Thomas won the 3200-meter run in 11:24.

The Columbia High girls were led by triple winner Sara Miller. She swept the sprints, winning the 100 in a season best 12.9 seconds, the 200 in 26.6, and the 400 in a season best 1:01.9. The Bruin girls also had wins from Hailey Tolbert in the 100 hurdles (17.87) and Mariela Casarez in the 300 hurdles (52.10).

Also of note were junior Samantha Evans’ 5-2 high jump win and Olivia Allen’s season best in the 800 of 2:35.33.
