Last Wednesday at Wahtonka School in The Dalles, 75 local children were in action at the Elementary School Track and Field Meet on the campus of  Wahtonka High School at Sid White Field in The Dalles.

This meet is hosted by the physical education teachers at Chenowith, Dry Hollow and Colonel Wright, and students and high school track volunteers were on hand to teach the events and pass out ribbons, which were provided by the Colonel Wright and Dry Hollow PTO and PTA.

The 18th annual Jumpstart Elementary Cross Country races are fast approaching and more than 400 boys and girls from kindergarten-through-fifth grade are expected to join in on the fun, starting at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at Sorosis Park. Harriers from the Columbia Gorge, Wasco, Hood River and Sherman Counties are encouraged to run.

As the years fly by, the number of participants taking part in the Jumpstart Elementary School Track and Field Meet has grown considerably, especially from last year’s 65 to nearly 80 this past Wednesday at Sid White Field in The Dalles.

DUFUR – Dufur High School turned into basketball central last week for the 24th annual Jumpstart Camp, as more than 140 participants showed up to learn the fundamentals of the game from expert coaches from across the Gorge.

If a player wants to maximize their overall skill level in the game of basketball, extra work in the offseason is necessary. Starting at 9 a.m. and running until 3 p.m. on Monday, June 19, the Jumpstart Basketball Camp will start its 24th season of giving youths from grades 2-9 the opportunity to hone in on their hoops attributes in a five-day event at Dufur High School.
