Firefighters responded to a brush fire along Mill Creek just west of downtown The Dalles Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 3, 2022. The nearby swimming pool was evacuated during the fire, which was quickly contained by crews from Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue, Oregon Department of Forestry, Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area and others. Heavy smoke drifted through neighborhoods east of the fire.

To the editor: Hi my name is Nevaeh and I just want to talk about fun things to do for kids like me. The community put in a new swimming pool and that was a good idea but some people don’t want to swim every day and don’t have the money. But what can we do during the winter? So I had an idea that we should get a roller skating rink.
To the editor: The Dalles will never be a tourist town so make it a destination town. On the plus side, we have the Fort Dalles Museum, a first class disc golf course at Sorosis Park and we’ll have a new swimming pool and host first-class bicycle and car events.
To the editor: (Edited for length.) I would like to ask the voters of the Northern Wasco County Park and Recreation District to vote yes to construct a new swimming pool. I manage the pool in Goldendale and I have had the privilege to work with and get to know most of the staff and lifeguards at your swimming pool.
