As an attorney who practiced criminal defense for almost 15 years, I have seen the impact Measure 11 sentences have on youth offenders. Studies show youth who are placed in the adult justice system are over 30% more likely to commit additional crimes upon release than those in the youth justice system. I ask that you support SB 1008 for the following reasons:

Providing those released from jail or prison with safe, sober and structured housing as they move back to the community on parole or probation has decreased jail time, as clients are more successful in supervision and less likely to re-offend when they leave, Wasco County Community Correction Director Fritz Bachman told The Dalles City Council in December.
