THE DALLES — Local nurses employed by Mid-Columbia Medical Center (MCMC) in The Dalles, and represented by the Oregon Nurses Association (OMA), reported “encouraging movement from MCMC” following a rally downtown The Dalles Thursday, Aug. 19.

Vaccination rates continue to rise steadily in Wasco, Sherman and Gilliam counties, but COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations are also climbing as the surge in Delta variant COVID cases continues.
As of Friday morning, Aug. 27, MCMC had no open ICU beds, and 26 percent of its patient beds were taken by COVID positive patients. It has had to turn away ambulances due to increased volume in its ER. Also Friday, it re-instituted its policy of not allowing visitors due to the surge.
On March 1, a patient arrived at MCMC Emergency Department with coronavirus-like symptoms, but has since been tested and the results were negative, according to a press release from Mid-Columbia Medical Center.
Providing health care to migrant farm workers not only meets a critical need but acknowledges the important contribution these families make to the local economy, says Jon Soffer, a nurse practitioner with Mid-Columbia Medical Center. “I think it’s critical for us to give back to this community by improving their health because they are a cornerstone of the industry,” he said.
Mid-Columbia Medical Center will celebrate the grand opening of its new Hood River outpatient care facility, Nichols Landing, on June 28 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with an official ribbon cutting at 5:30 p.m.
