The South Wasco County volleyball team won 25 matches, claimed two tournaments, lost only one match from Sept. 9 until the state tournament, won a district championship and scored a sixth-place trophy at the 1A state tourney in Redmond.
Over the past four years, South Wasco County head coach Donna Barton played an integral part in getting the volleyball program playing at a high enough level to compete with the rest of 1A classification. After a 25-win campaign, the program’s first Big Sky Conference District title and a No. 8 ranking, Barton can walk away feeling a sense of accomplishment.
MAUPIN – When the South Wasco County Redsides had a chance to land the knockout blow on North Clackamas Christian, they did not let up. They went in for the kill. The No. 8-ranked Redsides had all aspects of the game working like a well-oiled machine with the serves, passes and hits all delivering the necessary blows for a 25-10 win and the match in Friday’s 1A state sub-round matchup played in Maupin.
