Three more people applied Thursday for the open Zone 5 position on the D21 school board. They include Josh Farris, who ran for the post in May and lost, Brian Stevens, and John Grant. They all applied the day before the application period ended. Solea Kabakov filed earlier.
To the editor: NWCSD 21 Board of Directors: When the two districts merged, we were promised we’d save money with only one administration, and our school system would be better off. Yet our district remains the same, with very little community support behind it. I received an anonymous letter in an email, with complaints against Candy Armstrong, and a note saying the board would not investigate anonymous complaints. Consider that letter signed by me as well, there needs to some serious review of policy. This is now the third complaint you’ve received, I hope you take it seriously and do what is best for the students.
I haven't attended all the school board meetings, but on the occasions that I have attended I am usually the only representative of the general public. It is rare that anyone not directly linked to the school district is in attendance. A few teachers, vice-principals, principals, administration staff, a school system secretary and attorney, sometimes a representative from the Hood River News, and the board members are usually the only ones there. If there seems to be no public input, that is because the public couldn't be bothered to attend, they just want to complain after the fact.
