Dr. Waldo Cory Melrose Johnston III died in a backcountry skiing accident after summiting Mount Hood on Feb. 25, 2020, on his 47th birthday.

Another Voice: Short-term rentals are not vested in the community

I am writing about the residency requirements for short term rentals (STRs) in Hood River County. Many STRs are owned by non-residents who live elsewhere. Many are second vacation homes; most don’t have permits. The permit application for a STR requires the owner state they live in the house for 30 days or more in a calendar year. If so, a person can have 12 different residences in a calendar year.

Missoula auditions for Beauty Lou and the Country Beast Monday, June 17th

An audition will be held for the Missoula children’s theatre (MCT) production of Beauty Lou and the Country Beast Monday, June 17th at The Dalles Wahtonka High School from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Those auditioning should arrive at 9:30 am and plan to stay for the full two hours. Most of the cast members will be asked to stay for a rehearsal immediately following the audition.
