On Monday, Jan. 27, House Republican Deputy Leader Daniel Bonham (R-The Dalles), Jefferson County District Attorney Steven F. LeRiche and voices for the victims of quality of life crimes will provide details on House Bill 4122, also known as Ezra’s Law, at a press conference 1 p.m. in the Jefferson County Courthouse, 129 SW E St. in Madras.
An informational presentation about the ABLE program is scheduled today, Monday, Sept. 16, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Mid-Columbia Senior Center, 1112 W 9th Street, The Dalles, in the Deschutes Room. Co-hosted by The Arc of the Mid-Columbia.
With the shootings and the times we live in today, I am reminded of a column written by Sidney J. Harris for America’s 1976 bicentennial titled, “Our Real Failure.”
Harris, an American journalist and syndicated columnist, wrote, “In all the scathing criticisms that the Communists make against capitalist society they never put their finger on the one just accusation that can be leveled against us. The big failure of capitalist society is social, cultural and educational.
The Mid-Columbia Gorge has become the first — and currently only — officially recognized Dementia Friendly community in Oregon. The Dementia Friendly in the Gorge Initiative received the designation from Dementia Friendly America on June 26.
