The Dufur High Rangers qualified for the OSAA Class 4A/3A/2A/1A girls golf state championship tournament following a second-place finish in the Special District 4 Tourney on Tuesday at the Golf Course at Birch Creek in Pendleton.

Garrett Olson had an all-around game with 18 points, 16 rebounds and five steals and Oscar Thomas swished four 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 21 points in South Wasco County’s 41-31 triumph Friday in Maupin. The Redsides were on top by a 16-12 edge at the break, but took control in the third quarter with a 15-8 run to put the Cougars away.

Organizers of the Kollas-Cranmer Memorial Run were pleased, but apologetic, after the conclusion of this year’s July 4 event. A record number of regestered participants – 387 runners and 118 walkers – turned out for the annual tradition, making it the best-attended run since records were started in 1975.

Led by standout riders Autumn Inouye for the girls and Connor Goodwillie for the boys, the Hood River Valley High School snowboarding team is carving through the season and has picked up two more first-place finishes in Oregon Interscholastic Snowboarding Association action.
