Last summer, coach Oscar Nuñez fielded assembled 10U and 12U girls soccer teams, and both groups combined for a 5-2-2 record with a 21-9 scoring margin as the 10U squad secured first place at the Beaverton Cup.
Restocked with a revamped 10U roster this time around, the Westside Timbers—Copa Gorge posted a 4-0 record, capped by a 3-2 penalty-kick victory on a goal by Josie Gunderson to defeat Oregon City SC and repeat as champions.
“I am very proud of what this group of girls accomplished this summer,” Nuñez said. “With a lot of new faces, they came together and exceeded expectations.”
Following two straight losses, The Dalles United girls’ soccer team finished off tournament play with back-to-back wins by a combined 10-0 margin for third place in 11U Silver Division action at the Mount Hood Challenge ending Aug. 5. Coach Oscar Nunez fielded his group for three days of tough competition in an event that featured more than 400 teams.
At Cook Park in Tigard, Ariana Gonzalez, Bryce Newby, Stella Lujan and Lilyana Gonzalez, from The Dalles United, signed on for girls’ soccer action in a co-op with Beaverton Westside at the Lake Oswego Nike Cup this weekend and advanced all the way to the title match, eventually losing on penalty kicks to Lake Oswego.

Coaches met with the D21 school board in late June in hopes of creating a better system for using school and community sports facilities. They left with a goal of better communication, a plan to explore scheduling software that is more user friendly for both coaches and building administrators, and possibly centralized scheduling.
The Dalles girls’ soccer team is steadily making its jump as one of the upper echelon programs in the 5A division. Victoria Barragan and Addie Klindt were named as Columbia River Conference first-team winners, and both Molly Taylor and Courtney Hert earned second-team honors from opposing coaches for their standout performances this fall for The Dalles girls’ soccer team.
