To the editor: On Jan. 25, a program about railroading in the Columbia Gorge was presented at the Discovery Center. A great many folks attended this event and there were many slides about railroads on both sides of the Columbia. There was no mention of the displacement of Native tribes caused by the railroad and in fact, only the final slide alluded to Natives at all.
Over the past three years, Jason and Julie Hull have consistently shown that their shooting touch is second to none. While facing competitors from The Dalles to Baker City, the Maupin natives combined to shoot 40 of 50 to take home first-place honors for the third year in a row at the Elks Northeast District I Free Throw event held on Sunday, Jan. 6 at Sandstone Middle School in Hermiston.
Battalion Chief Jeff Cooper of Hood River retired on Sunday, April 30 from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue after nearly 37 years of service with the district.
Amid the noise of freeway traffic, construction and a busy four-way intersection, a lone trumpet tune faded quietly into the wind. It was a faint, calming sound that didn’t fit in with the uncaring mechanical racket of the day’s busy commerce.
