Time has flown by for senior athletes Jacob Justesen, Treve Martin and Allie Noland. From the early days of running around in gyms or concrete slabs on the playground, the game of basketball provided each of them a level of joy, frustration and life lessons that is unmatched. Justesen, Martin and Noland were recently voted on as 2017-2018 1A Oregon Basketball Coaches Association All-State athletes for their solid winter seasons.
MORO – Back after a four-year break from coaching, Mike Somnis took a look at the size and physicality of his offensive line and knew he wanted to instill a three-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust philosophy.
MORO – Forging ahead without injured all-state catcher Bradley Moe Sherman head coach Joe Justesen has had to move players around with hopes of finding the right fit for the stretch run. Since Moe’s injury, the No. 7-ranked Huskies have won four of their last five games, including an 11-4 opening-round state playoff victory Wednesday in Moro against No. 10 Kennedy.
Saturday in Moro, the Sherman Huskies posted a two-game sweep over Grant Union by scores of 5-4 and 15-1 in a pair of Blue Mountain Conference games.
MORO – Entering the top of the seventh inning, Treve Martin and Trey Homer were a combined 0 for 4 with three strikeouts and two walks.
The Sherman Huskies moved into third place in the Blue Mountain Conference baseball standings after taking a 3-1 road loss Tuesday against No. 5-ranked Pilot Rock.
When looking back at any championship high school team and the success they have had over time, parental involvement is just as important as the talent on the field or court.
BAKER CITY – In front of a capacity crowd at Baker City High School in the 1A state basketball championship game, the Sherman Huskies fulfilled lifelong aspirations of capturing a 1A state title, their second straight, in a 78-57 victory over Powder Valley.
In November, the Sherman Huskies suffered through a heartbreaking playoff loss on the football field to North Douglas. Nearly four months later, the defending champion Huskies exacted a little bit of revenge – on the basketball court.
While it took a quarter for the Sherman offense to get its shots falling, the defense blitzed Arlington for 32 minutes in an impressive 71-31 Big Sky Conference boys’ basketball opener played in Madras.
