Players representing the Sherman High School defending 1A state champion boys’ basketball team were recognized for their accomplishments at the Wasco Memorial Day Celebration. In the photo are, from left to right, Treve Martin, Isaiah Coles, Max Martin, Jacob Justesen, Reese Blake, Wyatt Blevins, head coach Bill Blevins, Keenan Coles, Luke Martin and Katey Blevins. At the two-day event, there was a memorial service at the Depot, a military flyover, go-kart races, games, raffles and book sale, a classic car invitational, a petting zoo and fun jumpers. Dewey Thomas served as the parade’s grand marshal.

PORTLAND — It didn’t matter that it was the Rose Garden. The “M-V-P!” chant for Kobe Bryant was loud and clear. Bryant scored a season-high 47 points and carried the Los Angeles Lakers closer to a playoff berth with a 113-106 victory over the short-handed but tenacious Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night.
