To the editor: Last December, a friend called asking me to meet with Dr. Jenni Neahring, whom she said was considering a run for the Democratic nomination for Oregon’s Second Congressional District. I met Jenni at a coffee shop during the wee morning hours and left saying to myself, “That’s a congresswoman!”
Jamie McLeod-Skinner believes “government needs to know when to help and when to get out of the way,” something she says U.S. Rep. Greg Walden, R-Ore., has failed to do, which is why she is seeking to replace him in Congress. “I’ve always seen serving in a public office as serving the public trust,” she said.
Her campaign motto is “Moral Courage + Rural Dignity,” and Raz Mason is excited to be one of seven Democrats trying to unseat U.S. Rep. Greg Walden, a Republican. “I woke up early one January morning, and I thought, ‘I have to do this, I’ve got something to say,’” she said. “We need fewer walls and more bridges. We have nothing to lose; we can try it another way.”
Dr. Jenni Neahring has made a couple of stops in The Dalles during the past month as her campaign to unseat U.S. Rep. Greg Walden, a Republican, shifts into high gear. Neahring, a Democrat who resides in Bend, decided to join a crowded field of candidates for the May election. She believes her unique perspective as a palliative care physician will benefit citizens in the Second Congressional District.
