Crowds organized in Hood River, The Dalles and around the country Thursday evening to protest Matthew Whitaker’s appointment as acting Attorney General, a move that put him in charge of overseeing Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into potential foreign meddling in the 2016 U.S. election.
According to Indivisible Columbia Gorge, the local organizer, over 100 protesters attended from Hood River, Trout Lake, Mosier and Parkdale.
To the editor: Regardless of anyone's individual views on immigration, the horrendous policy of the current presidential administration, approved by President Trump and being carried out by Chief-of-Staff John Kelly and Attorney General Jeff Sessions under his supervision, to tear children from the arms of their asylum-seeking parents, is cruel and un-American.
Washington state Gov. Jay Inslee expressed a defiant attitude toward U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who announced on Thursday the rescinding of Obama-era guidelines that assisted the legalization of non-medical marijuana in Washington, seven other states and the District of Columbia.
WASHINGTON — Attorney General Jeff Sessions is rescinding the Obama-era policy that had paved the way for legalized marijuana to flourish in states across the country, two people with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press.
Although Donald Trump had pledged to reverse Obama’s executive orders on immigration during his presidential campaign, the president had softened and showed some “heart” for the DREAMERs protected under DACA, or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. However, the president has callously decided to terminate the irenic DACA program that temporarily deferred deportations for nearly 800,000 young immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children. The president’s final decision on DACA was delivered on Sept. 5 by the Attorney General Jeff Sessions, one of the leading opponents of DACA. Sessions emphasized that the government will no longer accept new applications from undocumented immigrants to shield them from deportation.
To the editor: The Republicans rigged the presidential election of 2016. The Russians intruded into the election with the knowledge and participation of the Trump campaign. The FBI deliberately interfered with the process and affected the outcome. This corruption and betrayal is broad and deep.
