Free news: With two seats open on the Wasco County board, election season is seeing a packed race with Nichole Biechler, Lisa Gambee, John Grant and Robb Van Cleve running for Position 1, and Phil Brady, Dick Schaffeld, and Mike Urness for position 3.
THE GORGE — Lower graduation and transfer rates for Hispanic and female students at Columbia Gorge Community College (CGCC), and financial reporting glitches, occupied the college board meeting on Jan. 20 — along with the news that programs for adult, non-English-speaking, nontraditional and GED students are doing well and exceeding state averages.
With little deliberation, The Dalles City Council unanimously passed resolution 26-002, formally acknowledging community impacts associated with heightened Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity and directing City Manager Matthew Klebes to pursue certain community support actions.
THE DALLES — Concerned community members showed up in droves to The Dalles City Council meeting on Dec. 8, nearly overflowing the council chamber. Many attendees, either representing or supporting the city’s robust Latino community, expressed heartache and anxiety over recent U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) action in town.
HOOD RIVER — The History Museum of Hood River County, in collaboration with consultant Juan Reyes and artist Michelle Yamamoto, shares the newest addition to the museum’s permanent collection, Nuestras Raíces (Our Roots) Latino history exhibit.
