On any given holiday, you might find streets of The Dalles lined with waving American flags. Since the 1950’s, the flags have appeared as if by magic to inspire patriotism and pride in our town.
Boy Scout Troop 398 wants to unfurl more flags during holidays and is asking community members to help fund that endeavor. The Dalles-based group hits the streets about 6 a.m. every holiday to place about 200 flags along Second, Third, Fourth and Sixth streets. Their goal is to more than double that number to add red, white and blue to more celebrations and observances.
The late Gary Honald will be remembered in a Celebration of Life on Sunday, July 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Civic Auditorium in The Dalles, The date would have been Honald’s 80th birthday, a day that he took great delight in reminding everyone about The Dalles Kiwanis Club meetings, paying $1 for the privilege. each week.
The Dalles Area Chamber of Commerce’s 2014 Annual Banquet kicked off in style as it honored local “Home Grown Heroes.“ The banquet took place on Thursday, Jan. 16 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at The Dalles Civic Auditorium.
Over 350 children and their parents visited Mr. and Mrs. Claus at the old Griffith Automotive Showroom for the, Santa in the Downtown Saturdays last month put on by The Dalles Main Street Organization.
