Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Barbara was called home to our Lord on Oct. 31, 2018. She was one of five children born to Lavon and Marie Harmon.
Barbara was a graduate of The Dalles High School in Oregon and was proud to be a Dalles High Booster Girl. Following high school, she married her high school sweetheart, Gary Honald. Together they lived in Europe while Gary was stationed in Germany. On weekends and during leave they loved traveling and had fantastic adventures around Europe.
Upon returning to The Dalles, they raised their two children, Mike and Pandi. She loved supporting her kid's ventures. Later, she enjoyed attending her grandkid's activities and events. Barbara was fond of all holidays but especially Christmas. She had an amazing knack for making it a truly special time for family and friends. In addition, she inherited a gift from her mother, Marie, for making fantastic and beautiful pies. Barbara liked to spend time in her garden. In her younger years, she enjoyed skiing and toll painting.
Together, with her husband Gary, they had numerous businesses over the years. She worked as a bookkeeper for Honald Signs and Honald, Inc., and later for their orchard business. She really enjoyed buying and decorating for her Second Street Place Antique’s and Gallery that was located downtown The Dalles, where she met with many of the artists that painted our downtown murals.
Throughout the years, Barbara was active in numerous organizations.
In her younger years, she was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She was also a den mother for Cub Scouts.
For close to 30 year, Barbara worked at, and was a buyer for, The Dalles Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop, helping raise money for specialized equipment.
Barbara loved working with Gary planning, decorating and shopping for toys for the Santa Float used in The Dalles Starlight Parade. They also arranged for Christmas decorations that originally dressed the city street in the downtown area.
Barbara was a member of the second ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In her later years, she found great joy in teaching Sunday School classes to the preschoolers.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Von Harmon; sister, Sharon Harris; and husband, Gary.
She is survived by her children, Michael (Dena) Honald; daughter, Pandi (Greg) Hart; grandchildren, Spencer Honald, Karissa Haskin, Trent Passey; brother, Doug Harmon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
