To the editor: On behalf of all the members of the Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue District and its political action committee, Friends of the Mid-Columbia Fire District, we would like to thank each of our patrons for voting to approve our recent bond measure.

1935 — 80 years ago: With the new fall of snow on Mount Hood last week, skiing conditions on the mountain are now better than they have been all winter, according to Crag Rat Fuller, who, with Bob Barker and “Rusty” Fowler, made the trip from the junction to the Hut on Tilly Jane creek by way of the ride trail last Sunday. Several inches of new snow on top of the semi-ice beneath made skiing fast and delightful.

Several hundred young children (with parents’ help) scooped up a total of 6,500 eggs at Saturday’s annual community Easter egg hunt in Jackson Park. Some of those eggs were refilled on the spot and distributed again by “secret egg layers.” The Easter Bunny was on hand, along with Sparky the Firedog.

Like many 2-year-olds, Fred Bergen loved fire trucks, and growing up in New York City meant they were a common sight. At 47, Bergen, who now lives in The Dalles, has lived with the effects of his childhood curiosity ever since.

The Columbia High School Homecoming Parade went off without a hitch on Thursday when the Bruins took to the streets of White Salmon.

To the editor: The Dallesport Fire Department needs help. They need an additional garage for their fire trucks. The water trucks and the quick response fire trucks are presently parked outside. They will need to be drained for winter and that limits fire and rescue missions to our communities.
