Klickitat County PUD’s effort to license a closed-loop pumped storage hydroelectric energy project that it initiated in 2009 sustained another setback last month before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission — this time due to environmental concerns raised by a redesign of part of the project.

Klickitat PUD will be holding three public meetings on Feb. 3 to discuss its latest power generation initiative, the closed-loop John Day Pool Pumped Storage Hydroelectric Project, which is currently being developed under a preliminary permit from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
