Asa Farrell and Ezekiel Stelzer had two top-3 marks apiece, with Stelzer winning the 3,000 meters, and the Dufur Ranger boys’ track team totaled 56 points for fourth place at the Nike Sherman Invitational Meet in Moro.

In just one year of cross country, Ezekiel Stelzer displayed an untapped potential that College of Southern Idaho cross country and distance track coach Lindsey Anderson can’t wait to develop. On the track for Dufur, Stelzer won a 1,500-meter Big Sky District title after a mark of 4:24.35 on May 14 in Moro, and six days later at state, he set a career-best of 4:22.25 for fifth place.

The Dalles cross country athletes (pictured from left to right) Cory Cameron and Molly Nelson show off their Most Inspirational plaques made by assistant coach Robert Clark, with the help of the welding class and the woodshop teacher, Wednesday at The Dalles Middle School. Emma Mullins and Ezekiel Stelzer were awarded Most Outstanding as runners, and the trio of Tressa Wood, Ethan Shubert and David Wring won Most Improved. Mullins and Stelzer won first-team All-Columbia River Conference honors, and Wood, John Miller, Jony Nelson and Luke McLean had their names called for the second team.

Riverhawk varsity runners Emma Mullins and Ezekiel Stelzer each captured fifth-place honors, Bill Burns won the boys’ junior varsity race, and the four teams as a whole amassed 27 personal-bests and eight season-best times at Saturday’s Champoeg Invitational in Newberg.

Ezekiel Stelzer and Amanda Hoey were the highlights of last weekend’s Wasco County Fair Run/Walk, leading their respective divisions for first place as nearly 30 runners showed up to perform on the tough Tygh valley course. Stelzer won the men’s 5k race with a time of 18 minutes and 17 seconds, nearly two minutes better than his next two opponents.

In his first year as race coordinator of the Dufur Valley 5k and 10k event, Ty Wyman was happy with the turnout and final results put up by the 65 running participants. With the Wasco County Fair coming up Saturday morning, Wyman has high hopes for another high turnout.
