The 11th annual Kiteboarding 4 Cancer (KB4C) event had another great year of sunshine, wind, and lots of kiters hitting the water at the Hood River Event Site for a good cause.
The 10th annual salmon and steelhead tournament in Wasco is Saturday, Sept. 24. Check in at Heritage Landing, on the mouth of the Deschutes River. Registration is from 5 to 8 a.m., fishing will take place in the Celilo pool of the Columbia River. Tournament fishing in the Deschutes River will not be allowed.
Before the event kicked off Friday night, Kiteboarding 4 Cancer (KB4C) had already achieved a significant milestone, celebrating its 10th anniversary. But by the time the last kite had come back to shore at the Event Site, it was clear that KB4C had reached an even bigger one.
Kiters and their gear will fill the sands, beaches and waters at Event Site and The Sandbar Friday through Sunday for the 10th annual Kiteboarding 4 Cancer event, part fundraiser, part community party, and part celebration of life.

The Gorge Roller Girls derby team hits the hardwood for its first bout of the 2014-15 season Saturday in an inter-squad contest between its two lineups, the Cherry Bombers and the River Reapers at Dufur High School. Doors open at 5 p.m. and action starts at 6 p.m., with tickets for sale at the door. BOISE, Idaho — A group that overcame a court challenge last winter to hold a wolf- and coyote-shooting derby is seeking a permit from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management to roughly double the area for a second event this winter.
