Over the years, football players from Dufur and Sherman have engaged in some classic battles on the gridiron, with the teams splitting four games. Saturday in Union, Dufur standouts Curtis Crawford and Ian Cleveland, along with Sherman’s Jacob Justesen and Treve Martin, cast aside their rivalry as teammates on the East squad at the 29th annual Eight-Man Classic played Saturday.
DUFUR – Recent Dufur High School graduates Curtis Crawford and Chloe Beeson were stalwarts in every sport they played. Last week at Dufur High School, athletic director and superintendent Jack Henderson served as the Master of Ceremonies in the school’s year-end awards banquet and presented awards and scholarships to several students and athletes. Crawford and Beeson were each presented with Ranger of the Year awards for their standout 2017-2018 sports seasons.
The No. 9-ranked Sherman Huskies captured their sixth consecutive win, after a 20-2 mercy-ruled triumph over Dufur Tuesday at Dufur City Park.
After what looked like an encouraging start to the season, the Dufur Rangers are mired in a three-game losing skid, capped by a doubleheader sweep by scores of 13-3 and 20-2 at the hands of Columbia, of White Salmon, Wash. Monday in a non-league baseball doubleheader.
When thinking of the male influences in his life, Dufur senior Curtis Crawford names off his teammates and coaches, his father, Rick Crawford, grandfather, Ron Townsend and family friend, Russ Pishion as crucial mainstays in his development. But, mama is No. 1. It is that stronghold and positive example that has given Curtis a will to expect the best from himself, as he approaches the next phase of life as a football player at George Fox University, where he is slated for duties as a receiving tight end at the Division III school.
Cooper Bales and Curtis Crawford combined for 26 points to give the Dufur Rangers all the offensive push they needed to outlast Mitchell-Spray by a 63-8 margin Friday on senior night in Dufur.
