WHITE SALMON — Two deserving OSU Hood River Extension Service Central Gorge Master Gardener volunteers have been chosen as recipients of the Master Gardener of the Year and Behind the Scenes awards for 2025.
Council chambers take on an unusual look Monday as Jim Winterbottom, right, of Waste Connections, the contractor for solid waste disposal with the City of Hood River, presents to Hood River City Council Monday on a proposal for a set of substantial changes to waste collection service in the city.
Hood River City Council is evaluating the need for an updated curbside garbage, recycling and composting program. Citizens have cited concerns with the current system in regards to nuisance (cans blowing over, lids flying off), worker safety (residents and workers lifting heavy cans) and interest in expanded recycling services (greater access to recycling, and/or curbside compost collection).
Chris Mumford, owner of Hearthwarmers Firewood in The Dalles, has sold his operation to Andew Mason, owner of Andrew Mason Tree Service, LLC of Lebanon.
